College releases new practice guidelines for erosion and sediment control with BCIA and EGBC

VICTORIA – The College of Applied Biologists is pleased to announce, along with the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA) and Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), the launch of new practice guidelines for practitioners who develop erosion and sediment control (ESC) plans and monitor their implementation. The guidelines are the culmination of nearly three years of work by authors and reviewers with significant experience in the application of ESC.

Work related to ESC is a shared area of practice between registrants of the aforementioned regulators in BC. The guideline has been jointly drafted to be applicable to registrants of these regulatory bodies. Development followed EGBC’s guidelines development process but was collaborative and met the requirements of the College and BCIA.

Practice guidelines support the practice of registrants by establishing mandatory standards of practice and competence for specific activities or areas of practice. The College plans to continue to develop and release practice guidelines covering a variety of practice areas. Looking forward the College is developing a risk-based framework to prioritize development of new practice guidance based on factors such as feedback from registrants, observations from audits, practice reviews, and investigations, and further opportunities to partner with other regulators.
